The 2016 International Music Summit in Ibiza began Wednesday, giving industry members and fans of dance music a detailed look at the inner workings of the business.
Rolling Stone is hating EDM?
For a magazine who has cashed in on the bubble as much as anyone else in the mainstream music biz (they’ve had Deadmau5 AND Daft Punk on grace their last 2 June issues), Rolling Stone is really struggling to decide who their demographic is.
In a new promo video designed to appeal to someone, not sure who exactly, Rolling Stone decided to take a totally pandering stab at electronic music seemingly for no reason other than to beef up their Youtube channel.
No description is available for the 1 minute 22 second promo video that poses questions like, “What the hell are you doing? Those electronic noises you’re trying to pass off for music? Is this your drug now?” asks some male authority voice as a girl burns a joint through her ear over a glass of milk poured over pills like cereal. Is anyone else insulted by the flagrant lack of effort made here to seek any depth in what’s become the biggest dance music phenomenon in America since rock n’ roll? It’s bigger than disco now! With longer legs!
Commissioned by the magazine’s Italian division, this video doesn’t even make sense. I’m sure it’s bringing Rolling Stone lots of attention now, but as a reader I am hearby disregarding anything they have to say about EDM from now on. If you don’t respect our culture, we’re not going to respect your publication.
