As the 2016 musical ambassador, Guetta will create the official anthem for next year's European championships. The theme song will be released prior to the big event and will be performed during the Stade De France opening ceremony on June 10, 2016.
Here's what UEFA president Michel Platini had to say about the newly appointed music ambassador:
"We wanted to work with David Guetta because he has proven throughout his career that he can create music which inspires people all around the world. David's music has great energy so we look forward to seeing and hearing him add to the spirit and atmosphere of the tournament."
In addition to creating the new theme song, Guetta’s duties as ambassador include fostering the auditory identity for the entire tournament series, from music played during games to music used for broadcasting.
Guetta himself said of the opportunity, "It is incredibly exciting ... to be part of this huge football tournament in my home country. Music and football go hand in hand when it comes to celebration and enjoyment and I want to help to make this EURO the biggest and most memorable yet.”
