Old Drug Making a Comeback at Raves

Old Drug Making a Comeback at Raves

A drug, which has only recently been made illegal in the US as a schedule 1 substance, is starting to make a comeback amongst rave-goers and drug users in general. That drug is 2C-E.

When the rave scene began losing much of it’s popularity in the 90′s, the drug seemed to go underground for the most part. Now that the rave scene is on and popping, law enforcers are beginning to see it showing up more and more. It often is sold to users who think they are receiving MDxx, or a similar compound.

“Drugs come and go in cycles. They’ll be popular for awhile and fade in popularity and come back. It’s just one of those patterns that happens,” Lt. Ashley Harris said.

Harris is a chemist with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. He sees what’s being used on the street and uses a machine in the lab to test substances to see if they are illegal and he said he’s seen some 2CE too.

“It comes off a backbone of family of chemicals called phenethylamine,” Harris said. “It’s a white fluffily powered, a lot of times it’s sold in capsule form.”

While the substance is 100% illegal in the US, it’s supposed to be extremely easy to get online.

Researchers “found a website where a dealer promises the best prices for 2CE in bulk.”It also states it will be packaged in a discreet manner.
