Defqon 1: Next drug’s victim?
A 23-year-old man died from cardiac arrest and at least 14 others were hospitalized after apparently overdosing on drugs at a dance music festival in Sydney over the weekend.
More than 18,000 people attended the hard-dance Defqon 1, which originated in the Netherlands. Saturday's multi-stage show was held at the International Regatta Centre, with a line-up which included the likes of Brennan Heart, Coone, Psyko Punkz and Toneshifterz.
According to reports, the man died at Nepean Hospital on Sunday night after a series of prolonged cardiac episodes. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Police arrested more than 80 people for carrying illegal drugs on site.
"I can't talk about the gentleman who's died because that's before the coroner, but other people have indicated that they'd taken a number of pills," said detective inspector Grant Healey of Penrith police. "The problem with taking pills is you don't know what you're getting and you're really having a lottery with your life."
