Afrojack, Zedd, Dillon Francis Among Dance-Music Artists in 2014 Super Bowl Commercials

Zedd in Super Bowl

We anticipated there was going to be a solid presence for dance music during Super Bowl XLVIII, but we didn’t quite expect as much as we got.

Bud Light was the biggest proponent of the genre, with multiple commercials featuring music from A-list DJs: Afrojack’s new single “Ten Feet Tall” debuted in a spot for the company’s new Cool Twist reclosable bottles, though the towering Dutch producer was nowhere to be seen on screen. Zedd, however, took Avicii’s place from 2012 by appearing on-screen in a different spot for Bud Light Platinum, featuring his latest track, “Find You” with Matthew Koma.

But Dillon Francis was the biggest winner of the night, with music appearing in multiple spots globally. His 2011 hit “IDGAFOS” was featured in the Beats Music ad with Ellen DeGeneres (as expected), though the four dancing bears—one of whom, um, bears a striking resemblance to Skrillex—were a surprise to us all. Another Francis track, “Masta Blasta,” served as the soundtrack for Canadian beermaker Labatt’s spot, which, ironically, also featured its fair share of furry friends.

It turns out that there’s more still. Dance-music icon Giorgio Moroder also updated his soundtrack-styled piece from 1969 entitled “Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo” for a Volkswagen ad, while Hudson Mohawke composed the music for Under Armour’s ad for their SpeedForm Apollo shoe.
