This should come as no surprise, as “Where Are Ü Now” ft. Justin Bieber was essentially the song of 2015. To cap off a tremendous year for Skrillex and Diplo, Jack Ü were nominated for two dance categories at next year’s GRAMMY Awards.
The Grammys Announces Nominees for 2015
This weekend saw the nominees announced for the Grammy Awards’ 57th annual ceremony – set to be held on February 8, 2015 – and electronic music is already winning. This round of nominees for the dance categories is the Grammys’ most diverse yet, with more than just the mainstage players represented.
While 2014 saw German crossover star Zedd lead the way alongside fellow nominees like Calvin Harris, Kaskade and Armin van Buuren (the main ceremony, of course, belonged to those resurgent robots Daft Punk), the 2015 field is a wider look at dance music right now.
The ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ category shows an intriguing depth (for the Grammys, at least), with Aphex Twin’s Syro, Deadmau5’s while(1<2) and Mat Zo’s Damage Control listed alongside LPs from Little Dragon and Robyn & Royksopp.
‘Best Dance Recording’ has a distinctly UK house flavor thanks to Disclosure, Basement Jaxx and Duke Dumont, although ZHU’s runaway hit “Faded” seems like a strong contender.
Among the ‘Best Remix Recording’ nominees, the standouts include fast-rising success stories Robin Schulz and Audien.
