A Glance At BPM Festival 2014

BPM fest

This year’s 7th annual BPM Festival went off without a hitch.

Celebrating in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, were thousands of music lovers from around the world. There’s no doubt that the vibes down there are one of a kind: parties held at BPM official clubs such as Coco Maya Beach Club, Lost Avenue and Blue Parrot played host to some of our favorite artist showcases which included Marco Carola’s Music On, Nicole Moudaber & Chris Liebing MOOD Recordings, Richie Hawtin’s ENTER and Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors, to name a few. The best part of Playa and the BPM festival wristband was that you had unlimited entry and re-entry to any party you wanted.

The scene down in Playa del Carmen was a few decibels short of mayhem, which in my opinion isn’t a bad thing. It opened my eyes to a whole new side of the electronic community because I had no idea so many locals loved the music as much we did. Case in point: the dotUP RBMA pop-up party thrown together by Richie Hawtin and Dubfire at El Fogón Taqueria. If you weren’t there to witness the madness first hand like I was. The streets were blocked off by police, traffic was closed down in the streets, this small local taco shop was taken over by at least 500 people, all there to hear two of their favorite DJs, and of course eat some of Mexico’s most delicious tacos. That was certainly one of the greater highlights of BPM 2014.

Let’s not limit ourselves though, aside from the massive crowds at Blue Parrot and Coco Maya, two main hot spots on Calle 12, all the parties were bursting with energy.

Simply put, BPM Festival is one of those festivals you absolutely need to add to your bucket list. Disregard everyone else and their “bandwagon” mumbo jumbo and worry about your own good time. Make a list of pros and cons and tell me, how bad can it possibly be to see your favorite artists, on a beachfront location, drinking an ice-cold beer with your friends, in beautiful Playa del Carmen, Mexico…exactly. If you ask me that sounds pretty much like an ideal situation. Make BPM Festival 2015 a priority if it isn’t already.
