Nick Ghattas walks us through his photographs of Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Afrojack, and more

Ottawa-based Nick Ghattas catches his fair share of festivals throughout the year—but not the way most of us do. This photographer and videographer instead finds himself perched in all manner of spots in order to get the perfect shot. Here he talks us through 10 of his recent favorites that he’s taken.

Dada Life

I’ve always been a big fan of silhouette shots. The pink lighting combined with the crowd really give this shot an ethereal feeling.

Afrojack

I almost didn’t get this shot at all. I sort of hid out on the back of the stage while all other media was asked booted offstage. After about five minutes, I popped out and snapped this shot of Afrojack and somehow was allowed to hang there for the rest of the set.

Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness

Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness

This was actually one of the first shows I ever shot. I was hanging out on the side of the stage when I spotted Tony McGuinness of Above & Beyond just sort of in awe of the LED wall behind him. To this day this is one of my top five favorite shots I’ve ever captured live in any discipline of photography.

Above & Beyond

Above & Beyond

The epic finale to the another great A&B set. I love the timing of this shot with the hands up and the confetti blasting into the crowd.

I have to give the lighting and visual effects guys credit for this one. Love the magical aura of this shot. If you didn’t get a chance to be at this show, I think this is the closest you’ll ever get.

My camera definitely took one for the team to get this shot…

Tiesto

Tiesto

I probably grabbed about 300 shots of Tiesto that night, but I thought this one just stood out for me. It’s almost as if he’s exploding.

Sometimes the best place to be is right in there with the crowd. These are the types of shots that really let you re-live the moment.

R3HAB

R3HAB

This was the second time I had the pleasure of covering R3HAB and was ready when he took off. One of the more active DJs when he’s playing a set, he’s a dream for photographers to shoot.

Have you ever seen a DJ look happier? Me neither. Love the pure joy on Mr. Benassi’s face.
